Do Artists Just Paint All Day?

When I tell someone I’m an artist it usually goes something like “oh that’s nice, you get to paint all day!” But, I don’t! In fact, there are many days I don’t paint at all. Just like anyone else’s job, there are tasks I enjoy and tasks that become quite tedious. However, the variety of the day to day keeps me going and keeps me from getting bored.  Most months include all of these tasks, and probably a few I’m forgetting! 

Varnishing, painting edges, and wiring art

Entering art shows, online or in person 

Dropping off work at galleries

Attending art shows

Working on my website

Photographing art and editing photos

Posting on Instagram and other social media sites 

Packing sold art to ship

Taking inventory and ordering supplies 

Researching art, business, and marketing ideas 

Bookkeeping 

Cleaning my art studio 

And of course, writing blog posts
